Catching Up!

In looking back at my blog I didn't realize just how long its been since I have filled everyone  in on what has been happening the busy world of Kelly. In February I began ministry at L'Arche here in Erie. Which is the first L'Arche community here in the U.S. For those who do not know L'Arche is a community  of individuals with intellectual disabilities and those who walk the journey of life with them. As some may remember I spent a blessed month last year in the same home I am ministering at. I certainly have been keeping on my toes sharing life with them all. It is amazing how many connections one can make looking at different parts of their journey. So, I thought I would share with you all the ponderings that came from our time at the L'Arche National Gathering.

Recently, I a ttended the L’Arche Nati onal Gathering with the core members from the L’Arche Journey Home. The gathering was, in part, to celebrate the 50th Jubilee of L’Arche in the U.S. which left  me with much to hold in my heart.
L’Arche was founded in France by Jean Vanier in 1964 when he welcomed two individuals with intellectual disabili es into his home. As part of the public celebrati on, some of the core members and assistants reenacted this founding story. As they gathered around a table sharing life — inviti ng others to the journey — I couldn’t help but think of our own founding story. As Vanier dreamed of something different, so did Fr. Medaille and our first six sisters, invi ng others to join them in that dream.
In many ways their dreams were not that different and continue to remain the same. It is a dream that all might be one, living out the unity that we are called to. It is no coincidence that as I spend me at L’Arche Journey Home, I find threads of our own story.
