Life as Art :)

About a month or so ago I was introduce to the movie CANVAS at the NAMI confrence I attended. The story follows a family where the mother is found to have Schizophrinia and follows everything that happens after her diagnosis as well as leading up to her hospitalization. It further shows how each of the members of the family finally come to acceptance and healing in the situation. It also realistically shows the struggles of the family trying to make ends meet. It is a movie that leaves me with much to think about.

As part of the evening we also had an art show of some of our consumers. As the name CANVAS indicates, one of the family members (the mother) found healing through art work. Art has also played a big role in the healing and wholeness of many of our clients. We have been blessed with many talented artists. Their work never ceases to astound me, creating pieces that challenge me and my thinking on my own journey. It is a wonderful thing!
